Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

Picture of bored girl.

“Wah, wah-wah-wah! Wah-wah Wah. Wah. Wah. Wah!”

Come on! Focus!

It’s just… So hard! The guy speaking at the front of the room sounds like a Charlie Brown phone call…

My eyes feel heavy… This is so flipping boring! Look! There’s an ant crawling up the wall! Hey, it kind of blends in with the ceiling tile! I wonder how many ceiling tiles there are in here anyway…

1… 2… 3… 4…

57! There are a total of 57 ceiling tiles in here! Well, not including the three that are missing because maintenance has been working on the A/C…

Wait a second… I need to focus… What’s he talking about again?

Kids on computer

One of the things we address in our anti bullying school assembly is cyber bullying. It’s a major issue simply because the Internet has made all of us more connected. There are more opportunities now for bullying behavior to occur.

Recently the European Commission reported that social networks aren’t doing enough to protect kids online. They tested several of the leading networks and only two, MySpace and Bebo, passed the test.

ACLU Urges Superintendents To Adopt Bullying Prevention Plan

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

I’m excited to see this… Check out the full story at WMFD-TV.

Here’s a quote from the article:

The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio sent a letter to school superintendents around the state Thursday, urging them to adopt proactive bullying prevention plans.

The ACLU’s letter comes after several months of increased incidents of students across Ohio and the nation bullied by others. In particular, the ACLU encouraged schools to implement policies on how to address bullying when reported, education programs to prevent bullying, and comprehensive training for staff on how to handle bullying when it arises.

How to Stop Bullies: Don’t Be a Silent Bystander!

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

Group of Friends

We’ve finally reached the last post in our series about how to take a stand against bullying! Today we’re going to talk about one final topic:

Don’t Be a Silent Bystander

You see someone getting bullied. What do you do? Remain silent? Figure that the target has it under control?

Both of those options are bad. The victims of bullying often feel that they are responsible for what’s happening to them. They believe that it’s somehow their fault that they’re being bullied.

That just isn’t true.
