Why is Nobody Talking About Character Education?

We have two different school assembly programs. One focuses on bullying. The other covers Character Education.

I have to stay up to date. I have tools that scan the web for stories about these topics and send me a regular digest. I post the best ones on this blog.

Over the past month there were around 1,100 notable articles about bullying.

For character education there were only around 200 stories. Most of them were about local schools implementing character programs.  (more…)


Anti Bullying School Assemblies: A Different Approach!

This video is about nine minutes long, but it’s time well spent!

These are real kids and their reactions to seeing kids get bullied. Whether you agree or disagree, you can’t deny that what these kids have to say is compelling.

One comment in particular got my attention.

There was an assembly last year. Everyone was crying afterward because it was so like… Powerful… But nobody got the message.

As someone who provides anti-bullying school assemblies this grabbed my attention.

We talk to a lot kids after our anti-bullying school assemblies. Despite all the recent media attention, bullying is still a huge problem. We see it first hand every day!

According to a recent study, Asian Americans are the most bullied group in US schools. [Link]

We’ve been discussing various types of bullying in this series. There are many different tactics bullies use. It’s limited only by the bullie’s imagination.

We’ve covered some of the most common types of bullying, but I’d like to close out the series with the one most commonly covered in the news.


This is any type of bullying that happens online. It could be via text mesages, blogs, social networking websites, instant messages, e-mails, and more.

We’ve been discussing various types of bullying. Today we’re discussing a very serious tactic: Threats.

This overt type of bullying is one of the scariest for the target to endure.

The bully usually threatens to use one of the other tactics we’ve already talked about.

This makes threats a unique type of bullying. The bully doesn’t have to actually use the other tactics. They control their targets with the possibility.
