How to Ruin a Corporate Event!

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

A while back I met an agent. The first thing he asked was if our act was clean. He was very concerned.

He once lost a major corporate client because of this after hiring a well known comedian.

I’m not dropping the name because I can’t verify the story personally. I believe it’s probably true, but I’d rather error on the side of caution.

My agent promised the client a clean act. Before booking, he reiterated this point to the performer several times.

The comedian started out clean. Then he started feeling his audience out. He dropped a blue punch line…

Looking for our birthday party shows?

Cleveland Ohio rocks! It’s one of our favorite places to perform!

I absolutely love the Rock Hall. It’s a “must-see” for anyone that really loves music. On one visit there I got to meet comedy legend Weird Al Yankovich in person!

Another favorite stop is the Cleveland Museum of Art. If you haven’t toured their galleries, you’re missing out on an incredible experience. They have an extensive collection of Egyptian art. It’s truly fascinating.

One of my favorite places to shop is Beachwood Mall. Although I love my hometown, the shopping leaves a lot to be desired. Most of the awesome threads I perform in came from Cleveland Ohio!

“Wow… I love you guys!” said the sound guy…

“You gave me a detailed outline of what you bring and how you’ll need it set! The group after you just scribbled down that they’d need assorted instrument mic’s!”

Yeah… That’s because we understand the business side of show business.

Columbus, Ohio is an amazing city with a rich magical heritage! The great Howard Thurston was born there. Columbus also hosts an awesome magic convention. It’s a “must attend” even for hundreds of magicians all over ohio!

For us, Columbus is kind of like a second home. We know how to respond if someone screams “OH” in the middle of a crowd. We perform numerous engagements there every month!

Newspaper Article from the Sidney Daily News Discussing Shizzle Dizzle Magic Show

We had an incredible engagement last week with the Shelby County Trustees and Clerks Association. At the show, Joan (pronounced “Jo-Ann”) Buehler was kind enough to give me a copy of this article which appeared in the Sidney Daily News.

Shizzle Dizzle Magic is Based Out of Mansfield Ohio

We get a lot of questions after our shows. How did you do that? How did you get started? Where are you from?

Our answer to the last question always takes people by surprise… Mansfield, Ohio!

“Seriously?” they ask with a quizzical look… “You’re from Mansfield?”

It’s not as crazy as you might think. Mansfield has a lot of advantages for us…

We rock corporate events like office Christmas Parties!

It’s that time of year again… Christmas is closer than you think! Already committees are forming to come up with office Christmas party ideas!

We’re gearing up for Christmas too. This is busiest time of year. Our schedule is filled with private and corporate parties. I keep sending letters to Santa requesting elves for backup but he hasn’t been cooperative…

Corporate event planners love us because we go beyond what’s expected to make their event special. We’ve been in your shoes. It’s hard to make everyone happy. Your budget is smaller than ever thanks to the economy!

Our office Christmas party package is the best value out there. It’s more than just a show. This website does a good job of covering our act. Here are the additional services you receive in your package.

The Profanity Issue Briefly Revisited

I ran across a quote recently. It struck home so I’d like to share it with you.

“Profanity is a great shortcut of comedy and the reason I don’t use it is that I am concerned about the joke quality suffering.” – Jerry Seinfeld

If you’re wondering where this is from, I found it on an audio interview. You can purchase it here from amazon.

It took me about 500 words to say the same thing in a previous blog post. Thanks, Jerry.

There are a number of reasons of course… We don’t want to embarrass our clients and we feel magic should always be family friendly.

I was asked this recently. I hadn’t really thought about it too much so I was really caught off guard! I can honestly say that its never crossed my mind to use vulgarity in a show. I just never thought it was necessary! I was surprised when I didn’t have a good response to the question though…

Since that time I’ve put a lot of thought into it. I’d like to share those insights with you now.
