Parade lineup of union workers

Happy Labor Day! We hope that you have a wonderful day with family friends, and all the people in your life that matter.

We’ll be spending labor day at our local festival in downtown Mansfield. You can catch our performance at 11:45AM. Be sure to hang out afterward to say hi! Heck, we might even hook you up with a balloon animal!

Thinking about Labor Day reminds me of how blessed we are to have awesome customers like you! I don’t do this nearly enough, but…

Pictures from work from home article...

We are super stoked about this! We were featured in their article yesterday on “Dirty Little Secrets of Those Who Work From Home“.

I’m mentioned the tenth paragraph down. Here’s the blurb:

For Matthew Jones, a professional comedic magician from Mansfield, Ohio, even having roommates doesn’t offer much incentive to primp and preen.

“When I’m at home I typically don’t bother shaving unless I feel really motivated,” Jones said. “Most of the day I answer calls and emails in nothing but my boxer shorts and a pair of fuzzy slippers that are starting to smell a little ripe. I would go commando if I could, but there are others living in the household who wouldn’t appreciate that.”

Average, Good, or Great?

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Definition of the word praise.

An average magician…

executes a “trick” without revealing the method.

A good magician…

makes the “trick” entertaining.

A great magician…

makes you forget that you were ever watching a “trick” in the first place.

Picture of Candles With Number 100

Wow… Has this blog seriously had 100 posts already? Seriously? That’s unbelievable!

We have a lot to talk about here. Obviously we’re proud of our Anti Bullying School Assembly. We talk about that a lot, but we also are passionate about corporate entertainment and family entertainment.

That means the posts here cover a wide array of topics. If I had to pick 10 of my favorite posts, here’s what I’d recommend you read.

All of our fair and festival packages include strolling magic services.

If you’re not familiar with what this is, it’s where we engage small groups of attendees and perform close-up miracles David Blaine style.

We do this for a few reasons.

How to Ruin a Corporate Event!

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

A while back I met an agent. The first thing he asked was if our act was clean. He was very concerned.

He once lost a major corporate client because of this after hiring a well known comedian.

I’m not dropping the name because I can’t verify the story personally. I believe it’s probably true, but I’d rather error on the side of caution.

My agent promised the client a clean act. Before booking, he reiterated this point to the performer several times.

The comedian started out clean. Then he started feeling his audience out. He dropped a blue punch line…

The Truth About Magic Secrets

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Watch this video.

The beginning is kind of slow… It’s the second half I want you to pay attention to.

Notice that even when they reveal how the trick is done, it’s still amazing and incredibly entertaining. Frankly, in many ways with clear cups it almost seems MORE magical!

So now you know how the cups and balls are done.

Is it still art?

Is it still entertaining?

If you answered yes (and I think you did), then perhaps it’s not the trick that matters. It’s how engaging the performers are. Penn and Teller are masters at engaging their audience.

Think about that the next time you hear someone say they don’t like magic.

Is it really that they don’t like the entire art of magic, or is it because they’ve only seen it performed badly?

“Wow… I love you guys!” said the sound guy…

“You gave me a detailed outline of what you bring and how you’ll need it set! The group after you just scribbled down that they’d need assorted instrument mic’s!”

Yeah… That’s because we understand the business side of show business.
