Types of Bullying: Introduction

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Girl reading bullying pamphlet.

Today we’re going to start a new series on the various types of bullying.

Bullying is a huge topic. Let’s start with a definition. Here’s how the US Department of Health and Human Services defines bullying in their Stop Bullying Now project:

“Bullying happens when someone hurts or scares another person on purpose and the person being bullied has a hard time defending himself or herself.”

That’s a really good definition, but what does it mean? How do bullies scare people? What tactics do they use? What does bullying behavior look like?

Happy New Year 2011!

Saturday, January 1st, 2011

2010 is soooo yesterday!

Everyone here at Shizzle Dizzle Magic would like to wish you the happiest of New Years! May 2011 bring you wealth, happiness, and health!

Now is probably a good time to discuss our New Years resolutions. It doesn’t matter that we’ll probably break all of them before the end of the week. The point is we made them!

Tis the Season to Return Bad Gifts!

Welcome to America’s second favorite shopping holiday! Haul back all the junk you don’t want! Use that gift card burning a hole in your pocket!

Honestly, the day after Christmas is crazier than Black Friday. The return line at Wal-Mart alone is enough to make me want to crawl underneath the covers until January!

In our family gift returns are a rarity. We start thinking through Christmas presents months in advance and only make purchases after weeks of internet research and deliberation.

We’re really detail oriented like that. It’s both a blessing and a curse, but it’s also why our magic shows are so awesome.

I found a hilarious article from the New York Times about bad Christmas gifts. There’s some pretty funny stories there.

Here’s my favorites:

Hi! It’s Gus the Rubber Chicken here…

Typically these posts are made by my boss, Mystical Matthew. Personally I think his writing is pretentious and overly self indulgent. I’ve never been given so much as a proper introduction!

He’s a real jerk to work for. I put my life on the line every day performing incredible stunts! That’s not good enough for him though. He handed me an 82 page script that I was expected to memorize!

Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do. I just wish he’d be a little more appreciative. All I get in payment is a weekly allowance of rubber bands!

Thoughts on Bullies

Edit: Check out our official school assembly program page!

There’s been a lot of media coverage about bullying recently due to several teen suicides.

I’m glad to see this problem finally starting to get the attention it deserves. These deaths are a tragedy. They could have been prevented.

It’s time we admit the old saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” is total bunk. Words do hurt. Words can kill.

I’m going to speak candidly about my personal life. It’s an odd thing to do on a business blog. I need you to understand how passionate I am about the subject.
