Working With Kids – Why I Love It!

Friday, September 9th, 2011

Smiling Kid with Black Hair

In 2008 nearly 100% of our business was with corporate clients. Our entire business was focused around that, and things were great!

Then the Great Recession hit.

When companies are laying off employees, the last thing they’re interested in is hiring entertainment.

It was at that point we reorganized our business around the family and school market.

Until that point I had never worked too much with kids.

Kids Party Entertainers Top 3 Secrets

Top Secret logo that's been altered by urban art to read as stop secrets

A lot of people ask us why we still do kids parties. Our business has expanded into new territories and the profit margins are razor thin. Aren’t there better ways for us to be spending our time?

Partly, it’s because we like keeping our chops sharp. If you can keep a crowd of 50 kids engaged while they’re veins are pumping with birthday cake, Sweet Tarts and Red Bull, you can handle anything.

Beyond that we care about kids and the entertainment they’re getting. One of the goals of our company from day one has been to always set the bar higher. We want the rest of the industry scrambling to keep up with us.

Many parents looking for kids party entertainers just want the cheapest quote. That’s a mistake. This isn’t like buying deodorant at Wal-Mart. All things are not equal.

Here are the top three industry secrets you probably should know.

Kid Magic Tricks and Sets

Monday, December 27th, 2010

This past weekend we performed for a young lady’s birthday party. Afterward she told us “I love magic! I wish I could do it! I have these ring things, but I can’t make them work!”

This is actually a pretty common thing. The majority of kids magic sets are pretty crummy. I’ve seen more than one child with a sincere interest in magic give up in frustration because they couldn’t make the stuff work.

Earlier I posted about gifts for the budding magician. At that point I recommended books because they really are the best investment early on.

Many parents want to buy a “trick” though… Which is where the problem comes in. They head out to Toys R Us or worse yet, the Dollar Tree and pick up a magic kit.
